The APLV Study Day will take place on Saturday 30 November at Rennes 2 University. The APLV's (Association des Professeurs de Langues Vivantes) Study Day 2024 aims to contribute to the debate on the teaching and learning of languages in vocational training courses at secondary and higher levels, and to research on this subject.
In the professional context, discourse and competence are intrinsically intertwined: professional discourse is seen as an extension of professional competence. It is the ‘discursive component of professional expertise’. The analysis of this component that we will be conducting during this day is based on the study of professional activities and discourses in context, and more particularly on the forms of interaction and discussion related to the activity.
The aim of the day is to reflect the state of both classroom practice and research in the field of specialised vocational languages, both in secondary education (vocational lycées/colleges/highschools, technological series) and in higher education (universities, IUTs, engineering schools, etc.).
The day will take the form of two plenary presentations by teacher-researchers, one on the specific nature of language teaching with vocational objectives (Séverine Wozniak, Université Lyon 2) and the other on lifelong language learning (Christine Evain, Université Rennes 2). This will be followed by two round tables at which a range of professional practices will be presented and analysed in vocational high schools and technological series on the one hand, and in higher education (BTS, LEA, international student mobility) on the other.
