Lecture by François Heenen - University of Iceland

Monday 19 February 2024

In this talk, François Heenen will outline the particular problems facing research into procedural semantics, in particular that of establishing fixed criteria for distinguishing so-called procedural expressions from conceptual expressions and also that of clearly defining what is meant by the term procedure, which is commonly used to describe the meaning encoded by these expressions. In the same paper, he will also present a new approach in which procedural expressions, from the interlocutor's point of view, are not associated with procedures but with affective feelings about the speaker's metacognition of a given cognitive operation.
